The difference between freeze-dried and dehydrated meals
Dehydrated:
Dehydrated foods have been dried out or smoked by circulating the hot and dry air. The moist air is then dried out to remove any water from the foods at a temperature high enough to dry the foods, but not cook them. This process has been used for centuries.
Freeze-drying:
A relatively modern process, freeze-drying is where food is placed on large racks inside a vacuum chamber where the temperature is lowered to below freezing and then raised slowly. The water in the food will transform into a gas and maintain the food’s structure, preserving nutrients.
Dehydrating food removes about 90-95% of the moisture whilst freeze drying removes about 98-99%. Freeze-dried meals tend to have a longer shelf life as the lower the moisture content, the longer the shelf life an item has.
Why freeze-dried meals?
When you’re a thrill seeker, pushing your body to its limits and encouraging it to perform at its peak, you need to make sure what you’re putting into your body is fuelling it correctly.
